Yesterday we had Ella's 18 month checkup. (Yes I know she's almost 20 months). Because of our one year checkup fiasco that included screaming about getting her head circumference measured and a slough of shots, I called in for backup. Grandma Mary was up for the job, and so off we went to the clinic.
Right away the RN informed me that she would only need one booster today, which was a blessing! She was a little nervous when getting her height measured, but warmed right up to Dorothy (who, by the way, was Spencer's nurse as a kid). Ella marched right over to the scale to get weighed, and was calling the tape measure a head band as she got all checked out. Soon came the doctor who gave us a very thorough developmental rundown of where Ella should be at, and we all came to the conclusion that she was just where she needed to be. She liked getting her heartbeat listened to, didn't enjoy showing her teeth, and the doctor said her goodbyes.
The nurse showed Ella her cool bandaid that she would get after the shot, told her about how she was cleaning her leg, and before Ella knew it, she had gotten her shot. The tears began instantly, and as the nurse placed the bandaid on, she asked me, "Would Ella be able to have a sucker?"
And without skipping a beat, tearfully Ella responded, "PEEEEASE".
By the time I had it unwrapped, the tears were gone, and all was right with the world again.
How often I forget that a sucker is a cure-all! Thanks for reminding me!!! :)
