reese mackenzie

my sweetest Reese,

I wanted to send you a quick note to let you know how much I love you.  I love you more and more everyday, because you seem to squeeze hugs a little tighter, discover more, and create more joy than I ever imagined my life could ever have.

And you have curly hair.

Thanks to your daddy's side, you have sweet rings of curls, that are getting thick and wisp and tickle my face when you snug close.  I've heard your Grandma Mary's hair was so curly her siblings called it a brillo pad.

When you were born, your auntie's all cooed over your curly newborn hair.  I smiled politely, but for sure knew that the fuzzy young sprouts of hair would turn into sleek straight hair, just like mine and Ella's (and your aunts and grandma Karen).  But as you grew more and more hair, grandma Karen kept saying how yours was different - and she would know.  Everybody wished for your locks.  Even though you might have a sensitive head like me, and say "ow! ow!" before I even start combing, your hair is a blessing.  Please remember that as you grow older. :)

Oh Reese, you are among the top reasons why I feel so blessed.  A sweet, gentle soul, but eager to learn, be included, and have a say in things.  Sure I love your hair, but I love every single inch of you -- your skinny little tummy and toothy grin, and sweet heart to fill a thousand rooms.

Do you know what your name means?  Encourager.  Sweet Reese, I am so proud of you and so infinitely blessed by being your mama.

giving love,
mama
