Seems like I am always a day (or 20) late :) But, our Christmas tree hunt didn't occur until a week before Christmas. We decided to wait until it was snowy and cold to choose our tree, and this year, my choice was picked over Spencer's!
Every year there seems to be a hangup, and this year was no different. Once we found "The Tree", Spencer grabbed his chainsaw from the pickup to chop it down. I excitedly unloaded the girls, plopped them in the snow, and began snapping away. We had just one slight problem: the chainsaw. It wouldn't start, and with no backups in the pickup, we made the trek all the way back to the shop to pick up a replacement. Because it took us "so long" with both girls threatening to sleep instead of trudge out in the snow to check out trees, we decided that this tree was the winner.
My tired girls were ready to get home and warm up with some hot cocoa, and crank Christmas tunes while we decorated! Well, while I decorated. Reesie Roo laid down for a long winter's nap, and Ella decided to snuggle up with Daddy to watch a movie. When we hoisted the tree up, it was, umm... lacking. Sort of a wide and skinny tree, with branches absent in a couple places, but I assured Spencer that lights could fix anything. (not like he was too concerned) So what seemed like a billion strands later, our red and gold ornaments, and some ribbon, the tree was complete! Our other Christmas goodies were claimed by Ella and set up in her room. They included a family of nutcrackers, our nativity, and my old ornaments. She decorated and redecorated that tree almost everyday! And I must make a confession, while the trees are down in our living room and Reese's room, and most of the decorations put away, Ella has insisted to keep hers up. She even scavenged the tree star to use as a nightlight in her room. She just told me that she loved Christmas -- all year. Fair enough!
Our two sweet little Christmas angels. I am truly blessed with a wonderful husband and two beautiful daughters. Mix in both of our families and friends, and we've got a pretty charmed life. Maybe Ella is right, Christmas spirit isn't such a bad idea for the whole year, after all!
And just so it is remembered, this was the first year that Ella was in the Christmas program at the church! She was a member of the nativity, a cow to be exact, and her little sis was too! Ella practiced and practiced the songs, stood up stoically and sang her heart out! Even Spencer could hear her in the back! Her favorite song was Immanuel, Immanuel. Reese's finest moments included walking down the aisle with the kids and dumping her entire bag of cheerios on the floor! She'll have her years, though :) It was so very sweet to watch, but at the same time a very present reminder of how much my girls have grown! Thanks to our sweet family who came to watch the Cooney calves in their theatrical debut!
