Seconds. That's how fast life changes.
This little boy (pictured above with his papa and older brother) was saved by a fast acting lifeguard team at the pool, just seconds after we left. He was pulled from the water, given rescue breaths and chest compressions, and began breathing before the paramedics and police responded. Seconds. And lots of other scary details in between.
The team of guards was honored a couple days later by the Red Cross for their heroic save, with the boy and his family in attendance.
The Red Cross rep said that lifeguards are the youngest people trained to do lifesaving CPR, with most not ever having to actually perform them. Even as adults, it is rare for trained and certified people to ever have to recall and administer CPR. But it does save lives.
I'm so proud of my sister for her ability to stay calm and do her job, especially under very scary circumstances. She did save a life that day, and she and the other guards should be very proud.
Remember to always be safe around water too. Accidents happen, in a mere matter of seconds. Be safe!!
So proud of those girls! Thanks for posting this, Bethany.
ReplyDeleteJenna Kost - you are my hero. Reading the article gave me goosebumps . . . twice. The world would be a better place if there were more individuals like you. Really proud of you, Jenna.
