catcher of the frogs

{maybe this is a dream, but I'm pretty sure it's a true story}

Summers in our Echo Lane house were full of softball, swimming, and sunshine. We kept busy riding bikes, playing (and solving mysteries) with neighbor kids. But one thing we loved to do is catch toads.

Seems like we always had a buddy or ten in our yard, and we loved capturing them to study, and of course to take care of.

Well, Jenna must have been a baby, because we had a little wading pool. One day it was decided (probably Sarah's idea) to fill up the entire pool with toads. Tall order, yes, but not for the amphibious experts that resided in our neighborhood. Best I can remember, by that evening we had a tub full of toads, later releasing them back into the wild. I think maybe my mom was a little grossed out too.

That really happened right?

Well, we really captured one the other day, after mowing and raking, and he was very well cared for. He was fed the yummiest flies, given the finest rocks to perch on, and even grass to shade the hot summer sun. After toting him around for the morning, we went in for lunch and a little rest time. As luck would have it, the little guy let himself out of his constructed home and probably reunited with his family once more. We still look for him (or his relatives) every day though.
We're just hoping his friend, Mr. Snake, stays far, far, away.

  1. You girls had SUCH fun with many toads. I don't specifically remember THIS story, but am sure it's at least partly true!
