My dear husband is night calving. Which means a lot of thing for our family.
1. He watches the heiffers throughout the night, to make sure their calving is a smooth and safe process. Sort of a labor and delivery nurse, of sorts. He takes care of the cows until 5 am sharp, when my father in law promptly heads down to the shed to take over.
2. This year, he's got a helper. Someone to check on cows, welcome the baby calves, and ask the new mama cows, "What are you talking about?" when they moo and carry on.
3. He's got another companion, this dear black cat/cow.
4. Did I mention calving season is my favorite?
