As I wrapped up the Christmas decorating upstairs, I had forgotten about our nativity sets. I remember as a little girl, so looking forward to Christmas at Grandma's because it meant I could play with her extensive nativity that she had. It sat between her and my Grandpa's chairs, and I'd lay on my tummy and arrange and rearrange for countless hours. I thought it only fitting that Ella should be able to play with ours.
As soon as we got it out of its box, she began playing. She fiddled with them as I swept the pine needles off of the floor, chattering to them as though they were her baby dolls.
"Mama look!" She hollered as I was cleaning up the last of the decorating mess.
As my eyes looked in the direction she was pointing, and I realized what she had done, I almost started crying.
"They're looking at the baby."
Oh thank you, sweetie, for that very special reminder.
Thanks for the timely reminder. In my flurry of preparations this Christmas season, may I always remember to look at the baby--The Baby-- who is the reason we live !
