My choice to move to Billings was a little haphazard. I didn't really know the coach, the school, or the city all that well. But my decision solidified when I found a roommate.

I met this roommate back in 2003. Fresh off high school graduation we were rivals in the ND All-Star Volleyball game. We were anything but rivals, though. We spent the majority of the week together, laughing and sharing stories, and most of all, becoming friends. After the games were over, we lost track of each other and for the next two years, we didn't hear from one another.

The Rocky volleyball coach informed me that there was another transfer from North Dakota coming that year, and that she needed a roommate. He gave me her name and number, and I knew this was my long lost friend.

We lived in quite the duplex. We shared everything. She helped me get over break-ups and gave me lots of style tips. She even helped develop my love for shoes. :) She taught me about the importance of using Jasmine Rice. We loved that house, and it will forever hold a lot of memories for us. We went on lots of adventures with each other, and learned more about ourselves in those two years together than a whole lifetime.

We were the best of friends. And still, although I'm terrible at keeping in touch, we remain best friends. We love to talk about our old times together, but also our futures and what they hold. This girl is about to graduate with her masters, and move on to some wonderful job (hopefully close to me).

And today, on her birthday, I am so thankful to have her in my life. She is a strong, beautiful woman who makes those around her better people. She supported me through some pretty tough times, and I know she will always be there whenever I need her.

I'm sorry we can't have a party filled with dancing and great outfits, but know that I'm thinking about you ALWAYS and can't wait until we can catch up again. Love you!!
