A chilly fog greeted us this evening. The cows seemed less than thrilled with their coat of frost, and the little calves cuddled up so close they sometimes could be mistaken for cowpies.
Everyone had gathered at the Red Shed. Yes, not too long ago was this the location where dear friends and family came to celebrate our vows with us. This is where we ate, drank, and danced in our boots, the dust never really settling until sunrise. It was a wonderful entrance into our new life together. Now, new life is created there frequently, as calves are born, mothers are made, and our ranch's future is secured.
Tonight there wasn't any music, but there was sure a lot of noise
Ella and I rolled open the door and were greeted by two of the newest (and most adorable) members of our clan.
Two baby lambs just born today!
Ella warmed right up to the lambs. In comparison with the calves, the lambs are much smaller, and a little more mild mannered. It helps when Grandma is there to reassure.
And look! They have ears just like her!
Much like the night of our wedding, the shed tonight was full of lots of noises. The lambs were crying for their mom, the mother was baa-ing back to reassure them that we'd be gone soon. Sandy, Granddad's horse, was neighing and kicking up hay. And of course, there were the cows, making noise to either find their little ones, bawl through their labor and delivery, or warn us to stay back.
Among all this clatter, this little one rested peacefully while Ella packed hay around his face and body. It's going to be a cold night, you know.
Wow, Ella is really living the good life! Neat pictures and good luck with all of the additions to the family.
