I have a hard time illustrating to these dear students the capacity of my day, and my job here at home. So my pocket response is always, "Oh, we do a lot. We stay busy."
Wow. What a great response from a certified teacher. Way to teach!
But they don't want to hear about meals, dishes, laundry, cleaning, and diapers. Honestly I don't really define my job as such.
I am a bonka-boo kisser. I dance. I make up songs and we sing together. I read books in goofy voices. I rock-a-bye. I race up and down our hallway. I teach animal sounds and body parts. I like to play outside. I rescue kitties locked in cabinets. I watch cows, horses, sheep, birds, and other wildlife.
I might never get hired if my qualifications look like that and my only reference is a little girl who likes to say "no".
But I wouldn't trade my job for any job in the world. I wish I had the luxury of being bored. It's quite the opposite actually. There's always loads of clothes to be folded, toys to be put in their homes, and cereal to vaccuum out of the carpet. More than that, there are hugs to be given, smiles to melt in, and snotted blown kisses to catch. I tend to neglect the former in order to revel in the latter.
Kudos to every mother. Although on the outside we're wiping noses and feeding hungry tummies, the greater charge given to mothers is to "raise" children. This, right here, is my pupose in life. To create a better tomorrow by molding my child into a kind, caring person. The world may be a scary place, but moms everywhere are putting in their time to make it a little more friendly, a little more forgiving, and a little brighter. That makes me really proud to say I'm a mom.
Her mom.
The little one who takes naps in her hat, mega loves her kitties, loves her mama's kisses, and has a smile that can cure the meanest case of the grumpies.
AMEN! I love your post. It is wonderful being a Mom and you don't get bored or at least have time! Ella is lucky to have you as her Mom.
ReplyDeleteAnd, blessings to you. Because someday, your daughter will be in a classroom spreading the love that you have given her to spread. She will influence peers, teachers, strangers, other parents.... as a teacher, I wish ALL children experienced this much love!
ReplyDeleteWell said! A great reminder of just how important THE most important job in the world is. Our job as mothers affects everyone that our children come in contact with. You are one of the BEST!!!
